The last few months have completely thrown me for a loop. I've been forced to reflect deeply and recognize some major patterns that have been holding me back for as long as I can remember. In this time of intense reflection and uncovering these opportunities for growth, I've been working to slow down, let go, listen, and trust.
My astrological placements are Virgo Rising/Scorpio Sun/Capricorn Moon and with that I'm noticing that these intense Virgo/Capricorn energies can sometimes get the best of me. Recently I’m finally able to step outside of myself and observe the constant self criticism I have on loop in my mind alongside this urge to strive, push, and be perfect on the outside. These are things I've always lived with that I honestly thought everyone experienced the way I did. Through books, meditation, yoga, professional support, and tons of reflection time, I'm finally quieting those thoughts and checking in with myself and what I need. I'm accepting myself for who I am and letting go of these expectations I've set in my mind. The relief I'm experiencing in taking this new gentler approach with myself is incredible.
The journey toward self love, acceptance, and improvement is by no means anywhere near over, but I could not have gotten this far without a solid self care routine. I've written out my routine below in hopes that it will inspire at least one other person to check in with themselves, tune in, and give yourself what you need.
In the morning:
-After my alarm goes off: 5 minutes of quiet. No cell phone. Just a quick morning check in to listen and notice.
-A couple minutes of self massage on my abdomen to help improve digestion. To do a self massage, lie on your back with your stomach exposed, place your hands on your low stomach starting on your righthand side. In a clockwise half circle up and over your belly button, slowly apply pressure with both hands and press in that upward clockwise motion. Imagine you're squeezing a tube of toothpaste from the right side of your stomach to your left. Continue with that gentle pressure in a circular motion for a few minutes. You can do up to 20 minutes of self massage, just listen to what your body needs.
-A cup of warm water (also to aid in digestion).
-Smudge or incense while I get ready with quiet or light gentle music to ease into the day.
In the evening:
-A warm bath magnesium bath. I use these magnesium flakes in the bathtub, and typically add this essential oil bubble bath as well to feel fancy. Essential oils are an immediate mood booster, and magnesium baths are great for stress reduction, pain relief, and decreased inflammation.
-Post bath, I drink big glass of water and a cup of herbal tea to finish out the day.
-Mediation with candles, crystals, and sometimes my Mala Beads.
-I journal, read, and do low key activities before bed. I do my best to avoid my phone or computer for at least 30 minutes before bed to help me wind down.
